1. In order to sell my work for the same PROFIT at a gallery, I have to list my work 50-60% higher to make up for commissions. This makes the pool of potential buyers smaller.

2. I’d rather just put in the marketing and business work myself and sell on social media. I been selling constantly the last 6 years through social media and I do great.

3. I get to build one on one relationships with potential buyers and current collectors instead of them going directly through a gallery to facilitate a sale.

4. I want the freedom to sell on multiple venues at all times. Many galleries have contracts stating that you can only sell your body of work with them while it is showing and even if you sell it for yourself a month later, some galleries still ask for a commission because they believe their exposure may have led you to the sale.

5. Galleries can be intimidating for a lot of people or simply inaccessible in certain areas across the country. Instagram is the easiest way for me to build connection and lead people to my website in a way that feels simple.

6. A lot of galleries don’t even show pricing upfront and you have to call or email to ask. I prefer to eliminate this step that *most* people would rather not have to make by listing my prices directly in my posts and on my website.

7. As a woman and a Latina with an expressionist contemporary style, many galleries are unwilling to display my work; they are “married” to certain artists.
